Training events and resources

School of Theology

A series of talks that are taking place in 2009, which include teaching, discussion and interaction in groups and plenary sessions with the speakers. The aim of the course is to develop a more confident, articulate and applied faith as we grow in our understanding of the nature of God and of his remarkable acts in history.

See School of Theology.

Leadership training

A set of nine leadership training sessions given in 2007 and on the following dates in 2008/2009:

  • 22 September 2008

  • 20 October

  • 1 December

  • 26 January 2009

  • 23 February

  • 23 March

  • 27 April

  • 18 May

  • 22 June

Each evening includes formal teaching, group work and space for prayer for one another. There is a small amount of extra reading, mainly of Biblical material, and some personal spiritual exercises set for you to do between the sessions.

See leadership training if you wish to listen to the talks given in 2007 or download the notes.

Team building

Leadership as well as ministry needs to be shared if the church is to grow beyond the physical and spiritual limits determined by the capabilities and capacity of the senior leader. Drawing others into leadership results in an extension to the scope of the ministry in which we can engage as well as the creation of a structure for exponential growth.

See Building teams that work by Ian Parkinson, from New Wine 2008.

Growing healthy churches

Church is God’s mission agency in the world, his chosen vehicle for the continuing advance of his Kingdom, a sign to everyone of his saving power and presence in a lost world.

Unhealthy thinking patterns

Thoughts shape the way we feel, and feelings affect the way we react, what we go on to say and do, and how we live our lives.

A thinking pattern is an habitual way our minds process what happens to us and around us. Some of our thinking patterns are good and healthy, reflecting what is true. Some are not so good and may reflect significant distortions of truth which need to be challenged and replaced with the truth.

Unhealthy thinking patterns can generate negative emotions within ourselves and towards others, and add unnecessary pain and difficulty within relationships.
