St Paul’s is on Strines Road about two miles from Marple. St Paul’s has a fascinating history which has been recorded in a book entitled Where Two or Three Are Gathered Together by Rosemary Taylor. Anglican Services started at Strines (Calico) Print Works in 1854 and the owners of the Works built the church in 1880. The district of Strines became part of All Saints’ Parish in 1934. Newcomers to the white corrugated iron building are invariably surprised by the charm of the timber lined interior, the two-manual pipe organ, and the warm welcome.
The pews have recently been replaced by comfortable chairs, many donated by church members and residents of Strines in memory of loved ones. These greatly enchance the interior of the church. Photos by Cheshire Churches. Contact Joan Andrew See also | |||||
